It was one year ago — July 6 2013 — when the Sweet Brier Boutique re-opened its doors on the eve of Parrsboro’s Old Fashioned Saturday night. Jill and I were in awe. More than 100 men, women and children came to show their support. Neighbouring businesses and political leaders dropped by to say hello. Together we laughed, cried, and marveled at the legacy left by Joan Jones. That night I felt an incredible sense of hope and optimism for the future of Sweet Brier and for our community.
Since then, many things have changed. The Boutique is now sporting Cape Cod Wooden Siding in Ocean Blue thanks to Rafs Construction and the folks at Harrison’s Home Hardware Building Centre. A lovely lady and friend of Joan’s just dropped by to give new life to the garden. We opened a Man Cave. ECMA 2013 winners The Stanfields visited the Man Cave. We welcomed local artist Joy Laking and her beautiful paintings and cards. We hosted the dashing author and playwright Bruce Graham at two sell-out book signings and have sold many of his books to visitors from near and far. We are thrilled to have the amazing works of photographer and visual storyteller Len Wagg for sale at the shop … http://www.lenwagg.ca. Some divine ladies from Parrsboro and Amherst modeled in our fashion show emceed by the dashing Bert Lint. Friends and supporters posted comments to our Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter accounts. We won the Christmas parade … best commercial entry … with help from Bertha and Gary Harrison. And then there was the amazing news that we had been selected as a stockist for the famous Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan brand based in the UK. Our very own Ashley Ellis traveled to North Carolina to be trained at the Annie Sloan Training Institute and we are now selling the paint, accessories and will soon be holding workshops!
You all made this possible. Jill, Ashley, Colleen and now Megan — you are amazing, talented, beautiful women and I am grateful to all of you. Phil, thank you for your advice and guidance. Pam, Mary, Bert, Donna G., Joan, Janice, Sherry, Taylor — you are rock stars. Mom, Dad, Danny, Matthew, Sarah and Lindsay — I couldn’t have done this without you. I love you. To the folks in Parrsboro, thank you so very much for all of your support and words of encouragement. And to all our loyal customers we are always happy to see you and help you find that special something:)
Here’s to another year of fun and fashion! We’ll be seeing you! — Heather
